NYC Subway Noir’s Instagram
In 2019, I embarked on the “NYC Subway Noir” project as a personal mental health endeavor during a difficult period—a divorce and separation from my children. The daily subway commutes became moments of solitude and one day. I was struck by the sight of a man sobbing, reminding me of my emotional struggles. This encounter inspired me to photograph others during my commutes, helping me heal. The COVID-19 pandemic hit just as I felt ready to conclude the project, and the fear of the unknown compelled me to continue documenting subway life. Today, with encouragement and support from friends and colleagues, I am sharing this project, recognizing the process's entirely transformative and therapeutic nature; a personal reflection on societal isolation.
